Glaciers!
I spent the rest of my time before my DTS started on the west coast of the south island at Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers. It ended up being one day of hiking and then one day of travel/rest mostly reading.
It was a good chance to get away from people somewhat as these towns are really small (only a couple hundred people) and mostly are just there for tourism.
Hope your enjoy the pictures!

One of my days in Queenstown I was able to take a bus tour to Milford Sound – A Sound/Fjord is a valley normally carved out by glaciers that the ocean fills in with water once the glaciers melt. Fjord’s are characterized by very steep mountain walls making for stunning scenery. It was a 4 hour drive through the countryside to get there, but that gave me an awesome opportunity to see the farmland that NZ is famous for – (see next post)

Hey everyone! Just a quick post saying all the flights/customs went well – I’ve checked into a hostel in queenstown on the south island for roughly a week by myself before joining the rest of my group for DTS.
The weather is beautiful (by my standards – cool but not cold fallish) and the mountains are definitely amazing. I’m sitting out on a balcony at my hostel and loving the view of the mountains.
That’s all for now –

Hey everyone! I arrived safely in Los Angeles and have had a good 3 days with my cousin and her husband. I have definitely enjoyed the beautiful weather (averages 60-80 F all year around where they live).
I had the chance to rest, enjoy museums, and make the first 3 hours of the 7 hour time change between Ohio and New Zealand. I especially enjoyed getting out and running and walking around the Marina near their house. It was warm and sunny with a beautiful cool ocean breeze – otherwise known as perfect weather 🙂
I’ll leave you with a running quote for Eric Liddell – a famous World War II era runner and missionary. “I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure.”

So it begins….I leave today for the beginning of my trip! It’s hard to tell exactly where the path will lead – I appreciate your willingness to walk it with me from afar and greatly appreciate your prayers!
Stage 1 – fly out to Los Angeles and spend a few days with a cousin in route to New Zealand.
…and seeing as how I just finished the Hobbit and will be reading the Lord of the Rings while I’m gone I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a great quote 🙂
All the Best
